KARACHI: Heavy rain once again lashed Karachi Monday and power outages were reported in various parts of the city.
The sky had been overcast since morning with drizzling, however dark clouds covered the city in the evening and heavy downpour started with strong winds. It was so dark that the vehicles on the roads had to turn on their headlights.
Due to the heavy rainfall the MA Jinnah and II Chundrigar Roads witnessed worst traffic jam. People had to face acute difficulties while going back home from their offices.
The intense rain also affected flight schedules at Jinnah International Airport for a while, where many flights were delayed.
Heavy rain inundated roads, and water flowed in many houses in various low-lying areas of the city.
Over 60 feeders of Karachi Electric Supply (KESC) tripped during the rain causing power outages in many parts of the city.
About 130 ml rain has been recorded in Karachi since Sunday.
The rainwater submerged the Korangi road and it has been closed for traffic and the citizens have been advised to use a detour via Jam Said Bridge.
Meanwhile CCPO Karachi Waseem Ahmed appealed the citizens to avoid the Shahrah-e-Faisal as the road is totally submerged and deep water is standing there.
The met office recorded 67 ml rain in Karachi Airport area, 34 ml in University Road and 14 ml in Masror Base.
The met office also forecasted heavy rain in Karachi within next 24 hours.
